A Full Wedding Day In Alberta Canada | Edmonton Wedding Photography
Have you ever wondered what a backyard wedding in Alberta Canada looks like?
Well it’s time to put that wonder to rest because in today’s blog, we’re diving into some hand selected images from this stunning backyard wedding that took place just outside of Edmonton Alberta, about an hour and a half west of the core of downtown Edmonton, between Evansburg and Edson in a lovely small town called Hattonford. This couple proved that you don’t need all the bells and whistles of the big city to have a simple and elegant Alberta wedding day.
Simple backyard weddings tend to be some my favorites, they garnish an energy that is more laid back and intentional and what more could you really ask for on your wedding day? This wedding day was thoughtfully planned out with all their favourite people in mind while also staying the most true to themselves. When planning your Alberta wedding day, I urge you to think about your values, what is most important to you as a couple and what makes the two of you, YOU! While it’s great to get wedding day inspiration from what others have done in the past, try to form your own path and create a wedding day that feels like you and most importantly, try not to let the outside noise of others opinions mold your wedding day vision into something you’re not.
okay let’s dive into the gallery from this alberta wedding day
Getting raedy
A typical day for me as an Alberta wedding photographer starts with getting ready photos. This includes photos of all your detail items like jewelry, flowers, shoes and any other little detail pieces you might be wearing throughout the day. You’ve spent so much time curating the perfect look down to what necklace and earrings you’re going to wear so I always want to make sure those small moments are captured. Getting ready photos on your wedding day also include getting into your dress, suit or whatever else you might be wearing.
Once you’re officially ready to go, then it’s time to hop into your first look if you’ve opted to do one or get prepared for your wedding ceremony.
Ceremony
Your wedding ceremony is arguably the most important part of the day and you can truly make it anything you want. For my personal own wedding ceremony in Spruce Grove Alberta, we opted to have our best friend be our wedding officiant and I feel that added such a nice personal touch to it. Whether you decide to have the traditional wedding day ceremony or make it completely your own, here are a few of my best wedding ceremony tips:
Make sure there is enough room for everyone when you walk down the aisle. Something common I’ve been seeing lately is a person choosing to have both their parents walk them down the aisle so if this is something you’ve thought about, make sure you’re not tripping on each other and you have enough room to walk comfortably
Look at eachother, not your officiant. Yes it’s polite to look at your officiant occasionally but try not to be looking at them the whole time. If you’re only looking at your officiant and not your partner, all your guests will see is the back of your head
Hold your first kiss for about 3 second and then go in for another quick one! This gives your wedding photographer plently of time to make sure they got the shot.
Wedding Party & Couples Portraits
During a typical wedding day in Alberta, family portraits usually always follow the ceremony, however out of respect and privacy for the families, I usually leave these out of the blogs as they are such a special and important moment of the day for my couples.
So before all these portraits we did a receiving line where the couple got a quick photo with each of the families and guests that attended their Alberta backyard wedding ceremony and then we moved into family portraits. After your ceremony and all family portraits are done, it’s now time to move into the most fun part of the day, your wedding party and couples portraits! This is when you can finally take a breath, let loose and just enjoy some time with your favorite people on your wedding day.
As your Alberta wedding photographer I always start with photos of the whole group together, then just you and you respective sides and then send your wedding party away so we can dive into photos of just the two of you.
reception
A wedding reception has so many different elements and might just be my favorite part of the day. If you’re deciding whether or not you need to keep your Alberta wedding photographer to capture your wedding reception, I always say YES absolutely you should keep your wedding photographer for the reception.
A traditional wedding reception includes things like dinner, speeches, first dances, cake cutting and a little bit of time to party at the end. However, if there’s portions during a traditional wedding reception that don’t speak to you, you definitely don’t have to do them. I cannot stress enough how much this day is YOURS so if a cake cutting seams pointless to you, don’t do it, if the thought of getting up and dancing infront of all your guests makes you want to crawl out of your skin, skip the first dances, you can truly do whatever you want during your wedding reception!
As an Albert wedding photographer, I LOVE to capture a reception because this is the portion of a wedding day I get to see your true colours shine, whether it be on the dance floor with your best friends or mingling with all your family members, I love watching a couples float through their wedding reception. Plus, if your dance floor is popping, you can absolutely expect to see me on it!
Final thoughts…
For the wedding day blogs, I hand select some of my favourite images that tell the story of the whole day. I want to show you what a full gallery can look like without overwhelming you with all 600+ images but as your Alberta wedding photographer, I always include all the best photos from the day in your final wedding day gallery, this typically includes at least 30-50 images per hour you have booked. This couple opted for 6 hours of wedding day coverage so they were guaranteed around 300 images but this final wedding gallery had a whopping 670 final images in it because I’m never going to leave out a great shot.
