Tips For Planning Your Fall Photos | Pembina River Provincial Park Engagement Photography

FALL IS COMING

So I thought I’d take you back to one of my favourite fall engagement photography sessions from 2023 at the Pembina River Provincial Park in Alberta! As an Edmonton couples photographer I see every single year people scrambling to book fall photos mid September or sometimes even in October and by then IT’S WAY TOO LATE my friend and your favourite local photographer is probably all booked up! I don’t want to see you making this mistake so I’m going to take you through some of my best tips for booking and planning your yearly fall photos!

book early

We all know the fall season comes around every year and it’s so stunningly beautiful but why do we wait until it’s actually HERE to realize we want fall photos? As i’m writing this, it’s currently May and my fall schedule is already starting to fill up, so PLAN AHEAD! There’s nothing more disappointing than reaching out to your favourite Edmonton engagement photographer and them having to tell you they are fully booked… and trust me, they are just as heart broken as you are!

The absolute best time of year to take your fall photos in Edmonton Alberta is mid September - early October give or take a week. So if you’re planning on having your fall photos taken in Alberta this year, reach out to your favourite couples photographer RIGHT NOW!

location

Where you decide to have your fall photos taken plays a HUGE role in how your final images will look. Do you want lots of fall colours in your engagement photos? Consider choosing a photography location with several different species of trees. There’s nothing more beautiful than when greens, reds and yellows all mix together in background of your engagement photos.

This couple chose Pembina River Provincial park for their complimentary engagement photos and this is one of my absolute favourite Alberta photography locations. The Pembina River is typically pretty tame and there’s lots of trails, walking paths and an absolutely beautiful river valley. This Alberta photography location is about an hour and a half drive from downtown Edmonton but totally worth the trip.

If your fall photos will be engagement photos, consider picking a photography location that is meaningful to the two of your as a couple. I’m a wedding photographer from Edmonton Alberta and all of my wedding day packages included a complimentary engagement session and one of my biggest tips I give my Edmonton couples for planning their engagement photography session is try to think of the place where you first met, went on your first date, where you like to travel or just just an activity you like to do together.

Outfits / Style

I’m going to give you some of my best tips for planning your fall photos outfit but first I want you to remember this, wear whatever makes you FEEL GOOD, if you feel good, you’ll look good. I never want me couples to feel unlike themselves in their photos, so I always like to opt for an outfit that I’m comfortable in and truly feels like me.

  • Stick to a neutral fall colour palette (browns, beige, off white, sage, forest greens, greys, burnt orange etc.)

  • A pattern on one person is good but NOT both, just like how in this image she is wearing a flannel pattern and he has no pattern, they truly nailed their so simple yet so perfect outfits for their fall engagement photos at Pembina River Provincial Park

  • Stay away from too much black. If both of you are wearing black you can start to blend into each other

  • Choosing an accent colour or pattern and then building the toher outfits around that colour and pattern can be a great place to start

don’t sleep on fall photos

Book them early to avoid having to break your favourite local photographers heart and yours, pick your location to get optimal fall colours in your photos and plan your outfits strategically to make sure your aesthetic flows together nicely. If you’re looking to have fall photos taken in Edmonton Alberta or surrounding areas this year, reach out ASAP!
