Misconceptions About Boudoir | Edmonton Boudoir Photography

The title should give it away

But today we’re talking about common misconceptions people have about boudoir photography. The word “boudoir” originates from a french word used to describe a comfortable and luxurious place to pout or sulk, which is very interesting because now it’s a comfortable and luxurious space to get back in touch with yourself, your body and hopefully gain some confidence back, no pouting or sulking allowed in my Edmonton boudoir photography studio LOL

Boudoir photography can be a very intimate a vulnerable type of photography and people can definitely have different views on it so lets dive in and chat about misconceptions people have about boudoir photography.

Your photos will be posted online

This is NOT true. Every single one of my boudoir photography clients has the choice of whether or not their boudoir photos are shared online. When deciding if you want to share any images or not you have three choices,:

1. Yes I can share and use any of your images freely

2. No I cannot share any images

3. I can only share images that do not show your face or any other distinguishing features

Any of these answers are absolutely OKAY and will always be respected. I see so often women who are teachers, therapist, in the military etc. who don’t book the boudoir photoshoot because they don’t want their images being shared but you’re in full control and your intimate photos will always be safe with me!

YOU HAVE TO GET NAKED

Also NOT true. Your boudoir photography session is completely YOURS so you can wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable, you will never be excepted or pressured to get naked. Although it will never be required, my Edmonton boudoir studio will always be a safe place to rock your birthday suit if you want and i’ll always be there to support you with comfortable poses. During your boudoir session at my Edmonton boudoir photography studio you have the option to do 3 different looks. Typically this includes two outfits or lingerie sets and then the final look is our in the sheets / nude set. After you’ve done two outfits I always do a quick check in and see how you’re feeling, and ask if you’d like to do our in the sheets set, this is where 99% of my clients say they are feeling comfortable enough to give it a try! In the sheets can be done in many different comfortable levels so even if you’re not comfortable getting fully nude for this portion, there are still other options for you to get the same look!

It means you want attention

This is the one that gets me the most fired up. Boudoir photography is so much deeper and so much more genuine and intentional then just wanting to get sexy photos to post online and to get attention from men. I’d say 99% of my clients are doing the boudoir photoshoot for the exact opposite reasons, actually. Most of the women who step into my Edmonton boudoir studio are there because they want to feel good, they want to celebrate themselves, they want gain some confidence and are on the journey of healing their body images wounds. They are only there for themselves, period.

For generations and generations, women have been shamed for showing and feeling empowered by their bodies but boudoir photography is reclaiming that and allows you to give yourself the permission to take up space and express yourself. Your body is truly the most original piece of artwork and a boudoir session is the perfect thing to show you that.
